From October 26 to 29, the 5th IWC-HTS International Workshop on Cooling Systems for HTS Applications (IWC-HTS 2026) was held at the University of Twente in the Netherlands. The workshop focused on high-temperature superconducting (HTS) systems and related cryogenic technologies, with discussions covering applications including superconducting motors, fusion energy, large-scale scientific facilities, power systems, and HTS cables.
During the workshop, Lihan Cryogenics hosted an exhibition booth and exchanged views with experts and industry peers on cryogenic requirements, refrigeration technologies, and system solutions for HTS applications.
During IWC-HTS 2026, the Lihan Cryogenics team also delivered two technical presentations on cryogenic cooling technologies for HTS applications.
A Modular Distributed Cryogenic Cooling Solution for Long-Distance HTS Power Cables
The presentation addressed the cooling requirements of long-distance HTS power cables and proposed a modular, distributed local refrigeration approach. By deploying compact cryogenic refrigeration units along the cable for local recooling, the solution provides a new approach to cryogenic system design for long-distance HTS power systems.
Development of a Compact Two-Stage Stirling Cryocooler for Superconducting Applications
The presentation introduced the product development and experimental progress of a compact two-stage free-piston Stirling cryocooler. The cryocooler achieved a minimum no-load temperature below 10 K. Under simultaneous two-stage cooling conditions, it delivered cooling capacities of 8.1 W at 20 K and 10 W at 60 K, demonstrating its potential for superconducting system integration and compact cryogenic refrigeration.
Looking ahead, Lihan Cryogenics will continue to focus on mobile cryogenic technologies, strengthen technical exchanges with research and industry partners, and promote the application of cryogenic refrigeration technologies in HTS systems and other emerging fields.
